Yes, Carlton, our Senior English teacher teaches a unit on magic realism. It seems to be an outgrowth of what I learned as "surrealism" when I was taking literature courses. The teacher usually begins with Kafka's _Metamorphosis_ and now incorporates authors that were not being taught when I was in school. I'll talk to her today about some of her sources. It's an *interesting* genre, but I don't find it particularly enjoyable. However, I think learning about magic realism helps students to look for more in a writing than just its entertainment value.
