Dear LM_NETTERS:

Thank you for your response to my questions concerning
NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES. I realize many of you were off-line
over the holidays, but I was delighted to receive 25 responses
from at least 11 different states--from sea to shining sea. It
certainly is a relief to know I ain't paddlin' this boat alone!

Let me share with you the results:

Concerning the use of newspaper rods, only one of the
respondees uses a rack. Just about everyone else had a
newspaper that was kept in the library for the primary use of
students.

Magazines, too, are there for the students. In many
cases, even professional magazine subscriptions are the
responsibility of departments rather than the library.

I copied all of your messages, along with a summary of
the results, and gave them to my principal to present at the
team leader meeting. Here is the outcome of that meeting
concerning newspapers (we'll get into the magazine issue later
with the faculty):

        1. The library newspaper will be kept in the library.

        2. We will NOT use the newspaper rack and rods.

        3. The principal will purchase a newspaper
subscription for the teachers and those newspapers will be put
in the Teachers' Lounge.

Again, thanks to all those who responded.

To everyone else, if you have any questions, ask your
colleagues across the country. WE have to look out for each
other cause we're the ones who care the MOST!

                                HAPPY NEW YEAR,

                                JJ Towler
