I try to have the 5th graders use almanacs for current info
andthe H.W. Wilson Facts about the 50 states for comparisons.
National Geographic index is also useful.
WE have the enchantment series by Children's Press, it is
checked out but very littleof info is used and each book
is about $20
The Mecc disk (apple) Facts about the 50 states is also popular.
If the teacher is asking for facts, it is a great time
to compare encyclopedias, because several have fact boxes
that answer the usual questions.
Last year we got one teacher to explore states through National
Parks and that was intriguing-- a National Geographic map on parks
was very useful.
