The center is at Brown University. The Coalition of Essential Schools is led by Ted Sizer, who has contributed a great deal to the thinking about school reform. Recently, the Coalition published my monograph, entitled "The Essential Library: Partner in School Change." The paper focuses on the role of the Library at Central Park East Secondary School, an early member school of the Coalition. In a school where the curriculum is not driven by textbooks, and where students are expected to take responsibility for their own educational process, what happens to the library? The paper, and any other information about the Coalition of Essential Schools can be obtained by writing to: Coalition of Essential Schools 1 Davol Square Providence, RI 02912 Mark Gordon Oceana High School Coalition of Essential Schools 401 Paloma Avenue Pacifica, CA 94044 mgordon@ctp.org
