"Socializing" Study Halls

Please forgive the multiple listing, but I need as much input as possible.
The principal at my high mentioned the use of "social" studyhalls by some
schools.  If your school uses this type of studyhall in conjunction with
"quiet" or academic studyhalls, I would like to hear about how they
function etc. All responses welcomed.  Thanks in advance.
