LM_NET: Library Media Networking
I am Sister Mary Veronica, of Xavier High School, NYC. I automated the
library, doing the recon with OCLC, and then went with CTB/Columbia
MacMillan's Library System. I have never regretted the decision. It has
been a great addition to my life and the life of my students. Never think
that automation isn't a positive thing--it is. The point that those of us
who seem to be a bit cautious are trying to make is that one needs to plan
very carefully, be sure of the integrity of MARC records which are the basis
of the catalog and everything else, actually, and be sure that the library
software fits your needs, in as many ways as possible.
This is not an easy decision to make and it must be made with great
care. You don't want to have to convert your records ever again...
To those of you who are going into the automation process, it is a great
adventure. Please note those e-mail addresses on this net who have
responded with the different vendors and reply to us. We are glad to share
what we are doing.
I would be willing to put together a target of people and vendors
