Betty,
All of our video production equipment is housed in the media center. We
aren't doing too much with multimedia yet, just basic video production.
Our equipment is not state of the art industrial broadcast, but gets most
of the jobs done as of now. I was hired as nonprint LMS, having no
experience in tv production. I created a monster the first year, by
trying to videotape every event at the school ( most of it on my own
time.) We are a Channel One school with a daily homeroom show & I use
clips from different events(sports, too!) every few days. I've slowed down
a lot this year,(people started taking it for granted that I would
automatically show up everywhere with a camera). Next year, we're
starting a video class (one period-w/me as the teacher). It's been hard
convincing teachers to use the equipment, but with the class, I think it
will be utilized more in the instructional area. We obtained our
equipment with a special state allocation & have been purchasing a few
pieces with our AV equipment allocation. Offering these services through
the media center has helped to fortify our position as the center of the
school's instructional program. It adds another dimension to the
every-increasing necessity of media specialists! (not to mention adding
some more gray hairs!)
