WANTED CLASSES TO HELP WITH OUR ACID RAIN TESTING PROJECT! We have a group of fifth grade students who will begin a seven week study of acid rain on April 11th. The students will be collecting and testing the pH level of rainwater samples over a three week period (April 30th - May 20th). We are looking for some other classes (fourth and fifth grade) in schools throughout the USA who would be willing to help us with the following: 1. Send us a class letter by MAY 21st including in it the following information: school name; grade level; teacher's name; any interesting information about your class; the town or city and state your school is located in; whether your school is rural, suburban, or urban; what kind of industry your town or city has; any pollution problems that your town or city is experiencing, and what is being done to eliminate these problems. 2. For three weeks ( April 30th to May 20th) have your class collect, test, and record the pH level on local rain samples. You can use a simple rain collector and pH paper to do this. The class can make one rain collector, and do a few tests each week during this three week period. We will send you information about collecting and recording the data later. You need to send us your rain collection data by MAY 26th. We hope that you will help us with this project. When responding, please put ACID RAIN PROJECT in the subject heading. In return for you help with this project, we are willing to send you and your class the above information from our 5th grade students and all of the participating classes ( via a distribution list) by the end of May. We hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Elaine Hondorf, Media Specialist Nancy Picardi, Fifth Grade Teacher J.W.
