LM_NET subscribers-- (Please send replies directly to me at btoumbac@mailbox.syr.edu) I am working with Ruth Small at Syracuse University on a project to advise a new children's TV show to be aired on PBS stations. The show (intended for 3-8 year olds) teaches values through stories and interactive drawing segments. Print materials accompanying each show will include lists of recommended books for children (or for parents to read to children). We are looking for your recommendations on the best children's literature for ages 3-8 with the following themes: Competition (accomplishment goes beyond winning) Perseverance (sustained effort can lead to success) Communicating with sign language Being nervous about an important event (how to cope) Being sensitive (seeing things from another perspective) Giving and accepting approval (the value of compliments) Listening (it is important to be a good listener) Building self-confidence Fairness (things don't have to be equal to be fair) Imagination Concern (taking action when concerned about someone or something) Talking it out (misunderstandings arise from poor communication) Good Manners Please indicate which theme you're responding to and include a complete citation whenever possible! Thank you in advance for your assistance, your suggestions are invaluable! LM_NET subscribers as a group will be acknowledged for their input.
