I am the only librarian in our small district in Washington state. I serve all four buildings in the district--two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. They are located in two different towns about five miles apart. I'm wondering how many people out there are in the same boat that I'm in. I'm interested to know about your situation. How many students are in your schools? Do you have aides? My two elementary schools are around 350-400 students each, the middle school is around 200, and the high school is around 450. I have full time aides in three of the buildings and a part time aide in the middle school. I have scheduled classes for grades 4-6 every week, and my elementary aides have storytime and checkout with K-3. We are considered teachers planning time, even though my aides are not certified teachers they have full responsibility of the classes while they are in the library. Apparently that it legal because I am the teacher on record (!) Do you have scheduled classes or are you flexible? How long have you been doing this?
