Librarians in the movies

"It's a Wonderful Life" is one of my favorite movies. But what a
horrible image of librarianship! In the Potterville part of the
story--i.e. how rotten things would be if Jimmy Steward had never
been born--poor Donna Reed wasted her life away as a dreary
librarian....
