SEC,TARGET: new library

hi folks,
after being out of school media for about a year and a half, i may
finally be able to return. the position would involve creating a library
from a 20 by 30 room for about 125 inner city high school students
specially selected for high motivation. there are i think 3 computers,
some donated paperbacks, and a few subscriptions. i would need to
purchase a basic print collection for reference and circulation,
automation software, useful and interesting subscriptions, and possibly
shelving and other furniture. at the moment, i do not know what kind of
budget i would have.

i know this is not much information to go on, but i've seen so many
wonderful ideas on this listserv, that i thought even with this small
amount of information, some very helpful suggestions would surface.

if i could locate a source that would suggest a basic collection for this
amount of students, i would greatly appreciate it.

also, is there automation software that is especially suitable for a
smaller collection?

any and all ideas, even about things i have not mentioned, would be most
welcome.
