AMERICAN RESEARCHER JOY McGREGOR
WINS THE TAKESHI MUROFUSHI RESEARCH AWARD=20
IN SCHOOL LIBRARIANSHIP

SEATTLE, May 25, 1998   Researcher Joy McGregor of the School of Library and
Information Studies in Denton, Texas has been granted the Takeshi Murofushi
Research Award for her project on the implementation of flexible scheduling
in elementary schools The award of US $500 will be presented at the 27th
annual IASL conference in Ramat-Gan, Israel.

In making the announcement, IASL President Sigrun Hannesdottir (Iceland)
praised the proposal for its refreshing approach of interviewing teachers
and administrators in schools where flexible scheduling has been implemented
without financial incentives to determine what effects occur. This is part
of a larger study on flexible scheduling undertaken by Dr. McGregor. =B3Joy
McGregor has an international reputation in school librarianship, a record
of successfully completed research projects and offers a proposal on sound
educational grounds. The IASL looks forward to reports of progress at the
1999 conference in Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A.=B2

The Takeshi Murofushi Research Award was initiated in 1997. It is named
after Japanese educator and leader Takeshi Murofushi, a long-time member and
benefactor of the International Association of School Librarianship.

The International Association of School Librarianship comprises personal and
association members from over 80 countries committed to enabling young
people to develop literary and cultural appreciation and to use information
effectively through the improvement of school libraries and school library
