Hi, I have some old cookbooks, too. My favorites are the ones which are published by churches and other groups as fund raisers. They are great for local favorites., and easy to find at yard sales. I have one from my mother in law's Sunday School class with a recipe for Sweet Potato Pie to die for! I also have my grandmother's Mennonite Community Cookbook. She wrote notes on some of the recipes. I enjoy seeing her handwriting and comments. Have you seen Susan Branch's series of cookbooks? They are beautifully hand written and illustrated. Another idea, if you are really ambitious, is to make your own cookbook for gift giving. I typed out 70 of my favorite recipes on a word processor, had 30 copies of each page run off, designed, printed, and lamintaed covers, and put the cookbooks together with the binding machine we have at school. It took a lot of time to type out the recipes, but the cost of this project was minimal, and my family and friends enjoyed it. Karen DeFrank on maternity leave Dorothy L.
