I agree with Jody's: POV. Libraries need librarians. The notion of a classroom being run by a teacher-aide is unthinkable, yet students suffer with untrained librarians more often than I like to think about. I correct my students when they refer to the library aide in my library as "that other librarian." And I feel petty when I correct them, but perhaps it will make a difference some where down the line in their library awareness. There are small things that a Librarian knows, that can be large things where a student is concerned. The example about a student being given the wrong answer was one of those. Another example is the confidentiality of the students and the books they read. (We are not automated) There are many more. That's why we worked so hard in Library School and continue to grow. I couldn't survive without my library aide because I'm not one of those "clerical" librarians as some one else posted. But a good Library Aide also knows when to refer a student to the librarian. nancy Thackaberry Catskill Middle School Catskill, NY nthackaber@aol.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
