When studying globes, use HOW TO DIG A HOLE TO THE OTHER SIDE

Also read with above book...books by Goble especially those about
Iktomi and another book THE GIRL WHO LOVED WILD HORSES

I like to expose 2nd gr. to religious legends at Christmas and
Hanukkah. ....I put up two posters "Happy Hanukkah to our
Jewish friends" "Merry Christmas to our Christian friends"
I tell the story of the three kings and then read THE LEGEND OF
OLD BEFANA by De Paola. For Hanukkah I tell the story of the miracle
of the oil, then read an amusing modern story, THE CHANUKAH GUEST
by Kimmel, and then I teach the kids to play dreidel on a tray using
a plastic dreidel and paper clips for "gelt." I then leave the game
up all winter for kids to play. The tray has a card that shows what
each side of the dreidel means.
