Below are the are related videos I received posts about. There is one series
called "Pappyland" mentioned that may only be available here in Georgia.
"PeachStar," Georgia's educational satellite, has broadcast rights for this
series. I do not know if it is a Georgia-produced program. Hope this helps.

Video about Tomie DePaola? I don't remember the exact name but both Demco and
Library Video have it. He talks about art in it. It is really good.

I very much like Eric Carle 's video Picture Writer, and one with Lois Ehlert.
Both talk about their collage work, show how it is done and generally make one
feel that it is possible. My kids (gr. 1 - 3) really like them. Perhaps you
can contact the authors' web sites or publishers. I use them both with units
I do on the authors, and we attempt to do some collage work.

Have you tried the Peachstar broadcasts of Pappyland? Our art teacher loves
them. She plays the tapes for the students who finish their artwork more
quickly than the others in the class.

One video that our teacher and the students really enjoyed was: "Linnea in
Monet's
Garden".

One good art video for young students is Linnea in Monet's Garden. It's one
of the best I have seen. I forgot to tell you where I got the video! I
purchased Linnea... from Library Video Company.

I have three videos that cover Brazilian artists. They are all short - from
15 to 29 minutes and they cover three different artists plus culture. I
developed these in 1994 through the DOE's Georgia International Fellow
program. They are not totally professional, but they certainly include items
to be taught from 2 - 5 in the QCC's. I have not gone back yet and updated
the notes since the new objectives came out this past summer, but I am sure
that it could be easily done. If you would like a copy of them, let me know
and I will do so - after all, I own the rights! It might take me a few weeks
because I am in charge of two huge staff development courses that begin in
Feb.

I have purchased "Don't Eat the Pictures", a Sesame Street video, for several
of the schools I have been in. The Art teachers love it.

There are many videos on illustrators for children's books where the artists
demo how they do their work. I have used ones with Ezra Jack Keats, etc and
then have students try to do their type of work.

We use the ArtSense Art Basics Video Series tapes. There are three levels from
K-5. They teach basic line, shape, form, and color. There is a teaching guide
that has project plans, curriculum integration ideas, art and literature
correlation's. Since we do not have an "art" teacher, our teachers think this
is an excellent series for teaching the basics of
art. Ordering information Carolyn Crouse, ArtSense, 1073 Wharfside Ct.,
Greensboro, GA 30642. Carolyn Crouse is the developer of these and she will
come and do an inservice with your teachers on using this program. She came to
our school and got our teachers "oriented" on using these. I don't know what
her fee is.

Our central office media center purchased a series of art videos in 1989
entitled Artsense. On the computer catalog they are listed as being purchased
from Stone Mountain, GA Artsense, Inc. I'm not sure how you would contact
them or if they are still in business.

They are divided into four areas of study, each with three levels. Example:

        Color I K-2 Line I K-2
Color II 3-5 Line II 3-5

        Form I K-2 Space/Shape K-2
        Form II 3-5 Space/Shape 3-5

Also I checked in the Library Video Company catalog. They have several art
videos such as Art Appreciation Series and Art Lessons for Children Series
that look interesting. Their phone number is 1-800-843-3620, FAX number is
610-645-4040, online is libraryvideo.com

North Heights bought a set of art videos about 5 years ago entitled ARTSENSE.
There are 12 videos in all, three each on the areas of Color, Line,
Space/Shape, and Form. There is a teaching guide with each video which
includes lesson plans, materials needed, suggestions for the teacher in
presenting the art project, and how to proceed step by step in doing the
project. The creator of the series, Carolyn Crouse of Atlanta, came to our
school for an in-service on the videos because we don't have an art teacher
and our classroom teachers have to do the art. I don't have a phone number,
but the following address is included in each of the teacher's manuals:
Carolyn Crouse, President; ARTSENSE, Inc.; 1254 Golf Link Drive; Stone
Mountain, Ga. 30088
These are very doable projects and would seem to great with or without an art
teacher - although I think an art teacher would appreciate them, too.

Our teachers have been using a series called ARTSENSE. There are videos on
line, shape, color, and form, with an accompanying art education reference
guide. The series has 3 levels, with Level 1 labeled Primary (It can be
purchased separately from the other levels.). For information: ARTSENSE,
Inc., 1073 Wharfside Ct., Greensboro, GA 30642. Ph.: 1-800-866-5845. Also -
DON'T EAT THE PICTURES: SESAME STREET AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART -
Children's Television workshop - is good.

I've bought some art videos and unfortunately they usually have some nudes.
Our art teacher is pretty laid-back, but she won't use them with the kids if
there's any nudity. so beware. Most companies will let you preview, but
Professional Video Services told me this week that they won't take anything
back. Then they said yes, this time they would. Sooooo I don't know.

Tony, have you seen the Eric Carle video. He demonstrates "making" his paper
and cutting the pieces for a picture.
