Dear Susan and others:

I purchased a few of these Animated Hero Classics from Library Video Co.
at $29.95 each and showed the first one on Abraham Lincoln to third
grade recently for President's Day.  I told them that I was watching it
with them for the first time and that we would all decide whether it was
interesting/good enough to show to the next year's third grade class
next February.

Well, I hated it!

I had three girls practically in tears (ok, I'm exaggerating here, but
all of them said something like, "Gosh, Ms. Handelman, that was SO
sad!") and most everyone else asking me questions about vocabulary the
entire 30 minutes of the video.  Here is my memory of the show:
1.  Lincoln getting elected president.  (nothing on early life)
2.  Lincoln declaring war and worrying about how many people will die.
3.  Dead bodies on the battlefield.
4.  Lincoln's son dying in the White House.
5.  Lincoln giving the Gettysburg address during flashbacks of soldiers
killing.
6.  Lincoln's funeral procession--everyone crying.

Anyway--it didn't work for my third grade.  Maybe older kids.  But it
says K-4 on the box!


Hope to have better luck with the others I bought.
