Hi Barbara I offer block scheduling as part of teachers' planning time because it means we can keep our class numbers (18) down to 24 kids in each. They are 45 min sessions and I work with the kids developing info lit skills and all that teaching side. As well each class has a scheduled 20 min borrowing time (between 9.00-10.30 each morning) which is run by my assistant with the class teacher being responsible for supervision while Jenny does the actual check out. Kids can also borrow before and after school at and at lunchtime. This seems to work well for everyone, but it would depend on the number of classes you were expected to see each week I guess and what your teaching responsibilities are.
