TARGET: Digital Video/PC Needs

I am looking into digital video editing, and would like some feedback
what is required of your PC.  I have heard that a gigantic hard drive is
necessary to do any editing at all.  Any recommendations about processor
speed, storage options & hard drive size?  What is the minimum
recommended, what is the ideal...etc.

Any advice for a digital video ignoramus is welcome!
