Half of eligible voters don't vote, citing cynicism or disinterest. But cynicism is self-fulfilling. By not voting, we get exactly what we deserve -- politicians elected by special interests rather than people. I, for one, am exercising my franchise. I will vote. And I encourage you to vote. But you can do even more. And it's easy. Just go to: http://www.votepledge.org MoveOn.org has created VotePledge.org and is sponsoring a $10,000 VOTEPLEDGE DEMOCRACY AWARD as a public service. However, VotePledge.org is scrupulously non-partisan. Plenty is at stake on November 7th -- a new President, congressional leadership, the Supreme Court. Nothing could be more important than this simple act of announcing your personal commitment to democracy. Even if you don't go to the votepledge, I encourage you to take the time to vote. Wouldn't it be great if we got 100% of the eligible voters actually voting in an election? -- Susan Martimo Choi Manager, Library Services Santa Clara County Office of Education San Jose, CA smchoi@ix.netcom.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
