TARGET: Instrutions for graphics in signature files

Dear Colleagues,

I recently posted a hit for Graphics in signature files, otherwise known
as ASCII graphics.  I check all the links and all I got were examples.
I'd like to know if there are basic instructions for creating this, just
to get my kids started.  I know that it's a creative process, but I need
a starting point.  If anyone has any leads, please let me know.
