Thanks to all who gave me great ideas for using children's book characters =
in the nursery. Here are the suggestions I received:

I've seen some REALLY cute Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland resin and =
stuffed characters, prints, and more. Also, check some flea markets =
looking for children's books with color plates that might be worth cutting =
out, matting, and framing. I think the Alice in Wonderland characters I =
saw in a catalog titled What On Earth (I think they have a website too).

I don't know if you are having a boy or a girl but what about Madeline or =
Eloise? You can find some Madline things at http://www.liveandlearn.com=20=

and Eloise things at http://www.fao.com =20

Try Scholastic - they have all sorts of stuffed stuff - including a=20
Strega Nona :))))=20

Madeline is available at some larger upscale shops. My mother-in-law =
purchased Madeline items through the Betty Crocker points catalog.

On second thought, I think it was at FAO Schwartz (Mall of America) that =
I saw many characters - Curious George and Madeline come to mind but =
there were several others.

Make a trip to the Red Balloon bookshop at 891 Grand Ave, St Paul. It is =
a wonderful place. They have a toll-free # 888-224-8320.

I've seen a lot of Beatrix Potter lately -- and her characters are so
cuddly!

What about Curious Geogre? also you can try going on to sites of authors =
and some authors you can purchase original art. I know Patricia Polacco =
and Eric Carle each have gift stores on their sites.

Have you tried Hearthsong? They are a toy store, but not the Toys-R-Us =
kind. www.hearthsong.com Actually, I just checked their website and I =
would request a printed catalog. Also, Pottery Barn has a wonderful kids =
catalog--not character-oriented, but star=20
shaped rugs, etc.

Congratulations Linda; you might look for some Beatrix Potter things; I =
have a picture of Peter in the Garden-from Tale of Peter Rabbit; I got =
that in a museum shop when they had a Beatrix Potter exhibit. I have seen =
Peter Rabbit things in some book stores and also in stores that sell baby =
items; I have seen dishes, statues and all kind of items. How about F.A. =
O. Schwartz
in NYC; they probably have a web site.? Hallmark stores may also have =
some Beatrix Potter items.

You have to have Peter Rabbit stuff.

On HGTV I saw a program where they made a border around the room using =
illustrations from children's books. (They had an artist paint the =
pictures.) I thought it was adorable.=20

I have been a collector of Beatrix Potter characters for approximately 15 =
years. You can find bed linens, wall hangings, ceramic plates, night =
lights, lamps, rugs, towels, figurines, and more. Try going onto e-bay and =
type in Beatrix Potter as your search term. You will find hundreds of =
possibilities. As to where you can buy the items, I know the Babys-R-Us =
carries the linens and alot of the other extras. I do not have children, =
but I have often threatened to create a Beatrix Potter room in my house, =
just to have an excuse to buy some of the things. I try to limit my =
collection to early editions of the books and the figurines.=20

Try browsing the old fashioned children book stores. Even Target, Walmart =
etc have stuffed characters at times. Arthur is very popular, Madeline =
etc.

Hi! I was just "lurking" and found I actually had an answer to your
question. I am currently running a future book gift store and a lot of =
our stuff is based on kids books specifically. Check out www.eden.com. =
They have some awesome things available, you just need to get a hold of =
their catalog. Also Peacable Kingdom and Schylling, have adorable =
things.=20

I don't know what kind of budget you are working with, but I bought some =
really cute "wooden" book characters on stands from Barnes and Noble for =
our media center last week. I got Frog and Toad, Lyle the crocodile, and =
Where the Wild Things Are. They also had Daisy head Maisie, Little Bear, =
Arthur, and Clifford. They range in height from maybe about 15" to 30" =
tall. They=20
were priced at $24.99, but I used my teacher discount, so got them for a =
little less.

Hi. Try art museum stores. I saw Linnae and Phillippe (from Monet's =
Garden) stuffed dolls yesterday. They also have puzzles, etc.

I have a 2 year old and I did the same thing, so I think it's great! =
The=20
only other thing I did that you haven't mentioned is used the Jan Brett =
website. She gives you permission to use her graphics. I downloaded =
different characters and printed them out on transfer paper. I ironed the =
characters on white squares of fabric and then sewed them on to valances, =
diaper stacker, a multicolored quilt, the possibilities are endless!

Our local Hallmark store has quite a few Beatrice Potter items. You might =
try yours.

Sears has Franklin clothes, but I am not sure about decorations. There =
should be lots of Beatrix Potter stuff out there.

Thanks again for the ideas--hopefully the baby likes the book characters =
as much as I do!

Linda=20
