I came back to school one fall to find most of the books in a small library
growing green stuff. Enlisted by mother - retired from the same system -
and we washed all the books using a sponge dipped in Clorox water. We wrung
out most of the water so the sponges were not soppy. We saved virtually all
of the collection - set them out kind of open all along the bleachers in the
gym to dry. Not a fun day. I only recall having to throw out a couple of
books that had warped as well as molded.

Mold only grew on the Bound To Stay Bound Books -- something about the
glue/covers. Most of that library was BTSB. After that I switched to
another prebound company.

Did not have the problem again -- made the janitors leave the window cracked
open during summers for air circulation. We also ran a dehumidifier for
several months.
