I have just begun work in my 3rd library, with a mere 11 years experience. I have been blessed this time with supportive administrators who are backing my updating and heavy weeding of the collection (approximately half of the fiction collection will go and about 20% of the nonfiction this first year. I sent Jan a note saying that I felt her methods were sound. But... I am disturbed that she is doing the Librarians job. If there is a librarian the principal should go to him to do this. I would be incensed if I was in his position. How would she feel if someone else was brought into the computer lab to clean it up. Ethically I have some problems with what she is doing.
