We are conducting research on sexual issues in books in the libraries of Middle and High Schools - grades 7 through 12. This seems to be a very neglected area in the research. All responses are confidential. Identifiers will be grade levels and geographic area. Please respond to the following survey and return directly to jamoinet@hotmail.com or rabook@aol.com (Jo Ann and Ruth Ann). Thanks. SURVEY City,State - School grade configuration - Circle: urban, rural, suburban Are you the librarian of your school? Number of years experience? 1. Does formal sex education happen in your school? If so, in what department? 2. Do you exclude books from your library on certain issues? If so, which issues? Why? 3. Do you have current books on sexual issues in your library (fiction and non-fiction)? 4. Do you limit access or checkout to any grade or classification of your school population? 5. How do you use books on sexual issues in your library? Ex: booktalks, displays, circulation, individual recommendation, etc. 6. Do you work with your school counselors, social workers and/or P.E. teachers to use books that you have available on sexual issues for bibliography? OPTIONAL- Give names of books you would suggest or recommend on the following topics: sexual awarewness, sexual experimentation, sexual orientation and STDs/HIV/AIDS/safer sex. If you know of any websites, books, etc. that would be useful, please help. Thanks again.
