GEN LAW: Legal outcome...

Hello everyone, and our favorite Middle Eastern member, Et Al,

Oftentimes what we hear as gospel over the Internet is really chaff...
As we all know, our friend Heidi has a few sites for uncovering most of
them . . .

Occasionally, we'll come across an item that at first sounds like BS
(bovine secretions) ... but really hits the BE (bull's eye) instead.

Such is the recent message about illegal software being purchased
through
Internet sources and having the injured companies track down the
culprits
(both witting and unwitting)...

My search took me to the San Jose Mercury News, June 3, 2000...
it is in the archives but you have to pay $1.95 to get it...

In a nutshell . . .

Evidently a fellow named Caneda sold illegal copies of AutoCAD,
3D Studio MAX, and QuarkXPress . . .
He was arrested on Jan 26 for selling the software during December 1999
and January 2000 ... the take was estimated at about $900,000.
He is currently serving an 11 month sentence in the Santa Clara County
jail . . .

So, in addition to making almost a million bucks on the deal,
he now has an all-expense paid vacation from his online business
paid for by the taxpayers . . . hmmm . . .

Crime doesn't pay  ?  ...  yea, that's it!  Crime doesn't pay!
