MS Potential Book Challenge

I have been off LM Net for the summer but here I am back with yet the third book 
challenge in 6 years.  Middle School 5-8.  We have a copy of Gary Larson's "There's 
a Hair in My Dirt" (should have had a YA sticker on it, but it came off and was not 
replaced).  5th grade mom does not feel that the book should be in our school libe 
a'tall.  Anyone have any history with this book ?  I purchased it on the SLJ review 
(12/98) and it is very popular, I love it, but mama doesn't.  Words of wisdom 
appreciated.
