Phyllis and others, Am at home and can't quite remember, but believe the Sept issue of School Library Journal does a yearly spread on library costs (salaries, budgets, costs of books, etc.) Check there. Also, I hope you are looking at current replacement costs, rather than what you actually paid for the books 20+ years ago! Consider (if allowed) adding the cost of processing the books -- the physical stuff (spine label, jacket cover, pocket, etc.), the electronic stuff (cost of disk and/or man-hours to input), and the human stuff (time spent unpacking, checking invoice, customizing MARC records, preparing the books [physical stuff], and shelving). Ask anyone who's been through a flood or opened a new library -- there's a lot more than just buying new books. Good luck, April Johns, LMS Larkin High School Elgin, IL aljohns@home.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
