The Ontario School Library Association has been working on
InformationStudies
for some time and I have incorporated some of their materials
in my work with Grade 9. You're probably familiar with something
similar from AASL. Anyway there are four steps: Defining the topic,
Accessing Resources, Consolidating the information, and Transferring
the results -- paper, presentation, etc.

I usually have the big features on the Board before they arrive. I add
tidbits and see students noting what I have provided. We have a very
good [finally!] computer lab with 16 stations. In general, I found that
it is better to start with print before electronic or Internet resources
because too much student time can be wasted if the students are not sure
what they want or why.

At the end of last year, I did a WordPerfect Presentation for a major
Grade 9 science culminating activity. This effort seemed to spark even
more purposeful work by the students.

Hi Group,

I'd like to add to Linda's list.
Since my manual is a work-in-progress, I continue to add anything new.
I keep it as if I were going to turn my position over to another
librarian (I hope never!), and (if the time ever comes) to justify all
that happens in the library. Therefore, I also include:

Challenge Policy, Procedure, and Forms (is this your Reconsideration?)
Ordering Info, favorite vendors, discounts
Library System membership (annual report due dates, library code, ILL
information, contacts)
Overdue policy and procedure
Sample forms (district, building, and my own); blanks and completed ones

How students library ID numbers of obtained, and master list
Public library contact
Recess/door or other duties
New student, new class orientation information
Scheduling information
"How To's" on equipment available to check out, and other library
equipment (including copier jams and paper, fax machine, and voice mail
on my phone)
Name and number of district Tech people
Checkout procedure when the computers are "down"
Weeding
List of subs I like to use (former librarians)
List of parent volunteers
Budget Information
