Hello all. I'm leaving my position as media specialist at Cody High School in Cody, Wyoming. For official information about the job opening: APPLICATION PROCEDURE: 1. Written, or E-mail requests submitted to: Sheryl Feeley - Human Resources Office. Phone: 307-587-1193 FAX: 307- 527-5762 E-mail - sfeeley@park6.k12.wy.us 2. Submit request by deadline listed. POSTING DATE: March 30, 2001 APPLICATION DEADLINE: When Filled For personal information about the job, school, town, etc., please feel free to e-mail me (Colleen Williams) at cwilliams@park6.k12.wy.us. Cody is located in northwest Wyoming, 50 miles from Yellowstone National Park. It is a small town of 8,800 and is a great place to raise a family. Cody has excellent access to outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, kayaking, etc. It's close to the Bighorn Mountains, Red Lodge, Montana; Beartooth Mountains, Shoshone National Forest, and more. When Yellowstone is open (summer) you can drive through the park to get to Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole. Cody recently opened a brand new ice arena which offers figure skating lessons, ice hockey lessons, ice hockey leagues, toddler lessons, and of course open skating. A new recreation center and aquatic center is scheduled to open in May 2001. It will include a really nice pool area - olypmic sized lap pool, kiddie area, slides, etc. The rec center will have basketball courts, racquetball courts, weight rooms, etc. The ice arena, rec center and aquatic center and all located in the same area and babysitting will be available. (I'm sad that I won't be able to use the rec center and pool.) Cody has no traffic, (except some silly, lost tourists in the summer) and very little stress in the way of daily life stuff (parking, crowds, etc.). Cody High School has grades 9 - 12, approximately 830 students, block schedule (four 90 minute blocks) and runs on the semester system. Technology is a HUGE part of this job. The library is too small for a school of this size, but it has 14 MAC computers and 4 PCs. (The PCs are not the responsibility of the media specialist.) I've been collaborating with many classroom teachers and I'm sure they'll want that to continue. Beside teaching information literacy, I teach PowerPoint, Inspiration, creating newsletter or brochures in AppleWorks, use of digital cameras. The technology lessons are brief, usually less than 20 minutes. It's enough to get the students going. Other technology concerns: a media server, CD tower, printer. Technology available for teacher and student use: digital cameras, camcorders. There are 4 "creation stations" in the library that has AVID Cinema for video editing. I should be teaching how to use it, but I haven't had time to train myself. (I know some stuff, but not enough to provide a comprehensive lesson.) Video editing assignments are much more rare than PowerPoint, newsletters, etc. CHS is a great school. The administrative team is excellent, the teaching staff is fun, and the students are great. I'm leaving because my husband and I got teaching jobs at an international school in Venezuela. We would stay here forever if we didn't have the desire to travel the globe. We've lived in Cody for 8 years and I've been at CHS for 3. I love this school and this job. In 3 years I've never dreaded coming to work. You'll fit in well at CHS if you're: positive (no whiners!), funny, fun, willing to work together, not easily stressed. It really is a great place to be. We're having a hard time finding media specialists out here, so if you're interested and you have technology skills and a good attitude, you have a great chance. I'd love to leave the library in good hands!
