I see nothing wrong with your idea to "try out" the magazines. I can't imagine that "Ladie's Home Journal" and "Redbook" are that useful these days. (Especially when "Redbook" is looking more and more like "Cosmo"!) Just be sure to check with your district to see what the ordering situation is; in my case, almost everything comes via the district and EBSCO, so I have to make most decisions at one particular time of year. One thing about "Games" magazine; if it's the one I'm familiar with, it has one of the best varieties of different kinds of imaginative puzzles, many of them visual. I often used them in the classroom with my homeroom or science classes-and these were definitely not crosswords or word searches. Occasionally I purchase it on my own. Good luck from another new MS.
