>My principal just stopped in with an interesting idea. He'd like to put a
>wireless computer lab in our building, and wanted to know if I would like
>to have it in the library.

go for it! The more you can do with technology the stronger your
program will be. What a great way to create a transparent information
environment. The freedom those computers provide is wonderful; with that
freedom kids can really start to use technology in powerful ways. I think
it's wonderful to see a kid sitting on the floor, in a corner or whereever
with a computer.

The new ibooks are wonderful computers, lightweight and very, very powerful!

>He'd like to use the Ibooks and something called an airport.
>This would give the students the freedom to sit anywhere in the library
>and work on a laptop computer, log in to the internet, etc.
>
>I am not against the idea, but I do have some unanswered questions:
>1. reliability of the equipment - the kids hate the Imacs we have now
>2. can they be allocated enough memory for students working on powerpoint
>presentations (the graphics use up so much memory)
>3. do I really want kids sitting all over the room with these computers,
>or do I want to keep them all in one place as I have them now
>
>So, I need some feedback. Is there anyone out there with some experience
>with these computers? Is it time to go wireless?
