Hi Karen, I'm not surprised. Star Office is a good product with one outstanding virtue - it's free! That right. The program can be freely downloaded and reproduced. It can be obtained at: http://www.sun.com/products/staroffice/ There is a registration process that must to be completed before the software can be downloaded but, that's all! This is a fully functioning program which is similar to MS Office. It has a word processor, spread sheet, database, presentation program, and e-mail program. Star Office can even import & export Microsoft files. Unfortunately, Star Office is only available for Windows 95/98 and Unix/Linux Operating Systems. There's no version available for a Mac. I've used it a bit. It seems to work well and is about as difficult (or easy) to learn as MS Office. The user interface is similar but definitely not identical. If you don't need to teach students specific MS Office skills but are instead looking for affordable word processing, database, or spreadsheet software, Star Office is hard to beat. Hope that helps. >I just found out our supt wants to use Star Office 5.2 instead of Microsoft >products. I requested PowerPoint and was told this was just a good.
