Dear folks, This is just a bad week for me. I have 9 classes a week in my 19 hours and am in the process of automating and building up a library collection that has been neglected for 8 years.... I feel ok about the physical side of getting the library in shape, but awful about teaching. I have collaborated with some teachers in the past few months, but not enough. We are a catholic school and although there are guidelines...I don't think it is as rigid as public. This is a curse and a blessing. I am realizing that my upper grades, 6-8, have NO IDEA about information - Dewey, searching, Big6 concepts - all of which I am trying to introduce and shove down their throats while doing research. The lower grades are simply learning about fiction/non-fiction - where to find the title, author etc. and trying to learn something too! I have read novels to each grade 2 and up and just feel like I stink as a Librarian. I am all over the place and nowhere at the same time! I am wondering if I am really cut out for this. It seems that in order to keep their attention, I have to be a performance artist and I just can't manage that every week...it feels like chaos to me and I wonder how anyone is learning anything. Even when I talk to the teachers I can't seem to get a grip. I am flying by the seat of my pants...this is my first year (and maybe my last). Does it get better?
