Elizabeth Bentley wrote to me, saying, "It is actually possible to be a democracy while still having a monarch - or do you not consider the UK a democracy?" in response to my definition of popular sovreignty as "the concept that in a democracy we are self-governing rather than having a king." Elizabeth, and all other list members, I owe you an apology. I wrote my definition of popular sovreignty without much thought and with an American/U.S. bias. Thanks for the "reality check." The teacher requesting a book on the subject said a more accurate definition would be the concept thatin a democracy citizens are in charge of public officials and their powers. Still hoping for a title or two...Anne Anne Colvin, Librarian Mitchell Elementary School Ann Arbor, Michigan colvin@aaps.k12.mi.us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
