I posted the following: **I have a fourth grade teacher who is currently doing an author study on Chris VanAllsburg. She is specifically looking for vocabulary and comprehension activities as well as a small project for the following books: _The Wretched Stone_ _The Witches Broom_ _The Sweetest Fig_ _Bad Day at Riverbend_ I got helpful comments from William, Bev, Marjie, Liz, Anne, and Linda. Thanks so much for your help! Here are their thoughts - ***Go to this website and you will find more activities than you can use! http://www.educ.ucalgary.ca/cgi-bin/ROFM.acgi ***Did you know that Van Allsburg includes a drawing of a little white dog in each and every book? He had a small white dog when he was a boy and he has made that his signature. In The Dream, you can find the dog as a hood ornament on a car, in Two Bad Ants, he is a tiny little animal in amongst a busily patterned page - I can't remember for sure. My kids always like to find it. ***I would include TWO BAD ANTS. It deals with point of view (from the ants point of view) and also Following directions. ***There was an article in Book Links recently about Chris Van Allsburg which included some activities, but I don't remember which books it included. The issue was from the Spring or this Fall, because I made a copy for one of our fourth grade teachers. I can try to find the issue tomorrow in my library, but I am home now. Note: I found the article in Book Bag rather than Book Links - it was great!! ***I've just started my fourth grade unit on Van Allsburg. We basically read, discuss, compare and enjoy. ***I did a lesson last year with VanAllsburg that went over very well. I am home and forget the name of the book. It was something about Harris Burdick I think. They are all pictures and titles from a man who supposedly dropped them off at a publishers and then disappeared. They were all great story starters and the kids did a real good job writing their own stories. They were all bizarre pictures. Thanks again to all who took time out of their busy day to offer help!
