Thanks to Marjie, Anne, Jeanne, Virginia, and Debbie for their help on my request for current resources about communities (living in the city, in the suburbs, on a farm) on a grades 2/3 level. Here are their ideas: **Walter Dean Myers has a picture book about HARLEM that I think you would find interesting. It is available in paperback. **How communities are alike and different. -- Orangevale, CA : 100% Educ. Videos, 1997. gr. K-3. vt/col/15min. 1. Communities. 2. Primary. Primary Community Workers Kid Pix Activity Kit **Old Henry by Blos Aurora Means Dawn by Sanders In coal country by Hendershot Letting Swift RIver Go by Yolen Garden of Happiness by Tamar Adventures of Taxi Dog by Barracca Green Truck Garden Giveaway by Martin Shaker Lane by Provensen Wake Up, City by Tresselt Big Green Pocketbook by Ransom Last Dragon by Nunes The Rain Came Down by Shannon Little House by Burton Uncle Jed's Barber Shop by Mitchell Weslandia by Fleischman **Have you tried Gareth Stevens Publications? This company has many books about communities, cities, etc. I've ordered from them many times and have always been pleased. Final note: Some things that I have recently purchased include: _What is a Community?_ Bobbie Kalman (Crabtree, c2000) _Communities_ Lisa Trumbauer (Capstone, c2001) _I Live in a City_ Stasia Ward Kehoe (PowerKids Press, c1999) _I Live in a Town_ _I Live on a Farm_ Again, thanks to those who took the time out of their busy day to respond. Your help was greatly appreciated!
