My former high school did have students do a sort of evaluation of teachers, which the counselor used to spot trends. Since that was a small school (160 or so students in grades 9-12) it was easy to do. Faculty evaluation of the principal can be a useful tool, or it can be a complete waste of time. If the evaluations are done properly, and the principal uses them wisely, they can be a big help to the school. If, however, teachers and principal use them to "get back" at people, or if the attitude of "you scratch my back and I'll scratch your's" appears, they are just a waste of time. I suspect that those principals who are afraid of the evaluations are the ones who have not been doing their jobs well when they were evaluating their teachers, and are concerned that they will get the same type of evaluation that they have been giving.
