Hi, all.
It's the time of year when our sophomores spend a trimester on a huge
research paper project. It's hard to prepare for because they can pretty
much research anything (within reason) that appeals to them. I'm trying to
help a young lady whose request seems rather simple at the outset, but
proves not to be so. Because they have to use different types of sources,
including books and periodical articles, we're getting stuck on finding
ARTICLES (can be online or in print) for her topic on comparative
mythology. She is focusing on maybe four types of myth: flood, creation,
goddess-mother and hero. She wants to discuss how many cultures/societies
are "tied together" because of the commonality of certain types of myth.
Seems simple, but it's very hard to find articles written about this. I
found one in SIRS database called "Myths with the sun in them." At the end
the author discusses the universality of certain symbols. I'd love to be
able to direct this girl to something else. If anything pops into your
head on this topic (a place to look), please let me know (my email address
is below).
We're also looking for information on the psychological and/or health
benefits of laughter. It's not as tough as the first one, but if you have
something wonderful to share, I'd be grateful.

Jody
