I was catching up on my email at work this morning, and started reading all
the grammar pet peeves. I wanted to share what I did as a mother. Then I
read that the discussion was to be ended yesterday. I still want to share
what I did, as I think it is perhaps valuable to someone in a similar
situation. My husband is member of the "I seen, etc." club, which drives
me nuts. I was very concerned that my children NOT be members, too. When
they were young, and learning speech patterns, EVERY time they said "I seen"
or something similar, I made them repeat it correctly. It took much
diligence on my part, but, I'm proud to say, that my four boys are not
members! So, if any of you are facing similar situations, it is worth your
effort to correct it. I figure we only get one chance to make a first
impression, and I didn't want my kids not to get a job because the boss
spoke "well English", and they did not.
