When Windows 98 does not completely shut down for me I run Scandisk and it solves the problem. For some reason, late in the day at work - like an hour and a half and the kids leave, I have trouble shutting down. Some believe that it takes a long time after the Microsoft Outlook icon disappears, for all its backround files to actually close, which is causing the problem. I'd start by doing some disk maintainance: disk clean-up, scandisk, and defraging the hard drive. Remember to turn off background programs, including screen saver. I also give the three fingered salute (control-alt-delete) to end all programs running in background except of systray and explorer. John Lees Mt.
