I'm reading with interest the current thread comparing Barnes and Noble and libraries. But I disagree that Barnes and Noble is for browsing only. This weekend I went to B & N to buy a book on Algeria. They had nothing in the travel section or anywhere else. The clerk looked in the computer to order one for me but was unable to cite anything about each title except the basic entry. I then went to the Jamaica branch of the Queens Borough Public Library (NYC) and found 6 books I wanted and 6 more that I didn't need. Some NYC principals attended a meeting recently in which they were encouraged to make their libraries look like B & N, ie. attractive displays, cozy areas. I think this is a topic worthy of some in-depth research.
