Target: 100 Best Characters in Fiction

Dear LM_NETter's:

Are you familiar with Book Magazine? A friend of mine just gave me the
Mar/Apr issue. There are several interesting articles in that issue,
including a listing of the 100 Best Characters in Fiction Since 1900. I
had not read several of the books mentioned and I was surprised to see
some of the names included on the list. See what you think.

I thought it would be fun to compile our own list.  I would like you to
send nominations and suggestions for controlling the entries to me
directly.  I will compile the list and then we can vote for our
favorites.

So far, I have thought of these guidelines:

You may only nominate one character from a book.
Try to include characters from various levels of fiction.
Try to include characters from various time periods i.e. Harry Potter
and Sherlock Holmes.
Include the title of the work with your nomination (in case some of us
don't recognize the name or have not read the work.
Please limit your nominations to a manageable amount. (How many do you
think?) Certainly do not send a list of 100.

Ask your colleagues for their suggestions.

When should our deadline for nominations be?
