I, too, would begin by weeding and getting the books shelved in proper = order. Shonda mentioned Renaissance and this might be a good = decorating/display theme for the year. The possibilities are endless; = castles, paintings, architecture. This theme would also allow you to = hit most of the areas of the Dewey Decimal system. Great teaching = opportunity.=20 If you are manually checking out books, just make sure you can identify = each individual book. If you need to, pencil in a temporary number. = Put it on the book and the checkout card. You could use the year 2003 = plus 1, then 2, then 3 etc. Keep a running list of which numbers you = have used. It won't be necessary to write any titles or authors because = this is just a temporary, emergency check out procedure for books = without accession numbers. Good luck. Remember to enjoy getting to know your students and find = those who love to read to help you with your Renaissance.
