Let me add one more thing to the break down of the 920's I did that with
the biography section for high school some 30 years a go when I was a
new librarian at a k-12 school. As I looked at each biography I knew
that area of the library very well when I was through but I later
wished I had been smart and broken some thing past the 3 letter
designation, especially in the 927 so that my baseball players were not
mixed in with the painters. Then in the 920 I would have liked to have
broken it down farther so that African Americans collected biographies
shelved together and women etc. I never have gotten to do this so it
might be too much work. But when I catalog I hate to see these types of
material become scattered all over the 920's I know that is what the
catalog is for... but I also know I like to browse myself something just
can't be described enough. For large collection of Shakespeare
materials I also like breaking them down by play.

I just wanted to add that I, too, had all of my collective biographies
in
the 920s for years. Last year I cataloged them out to the 922s, 923s,
924s, etc. It is really nice when you want, say, all of the books
about
the presidents, to be able to find them together. Previously, I could
never do that and also would overlook many collective biographies
unless I
used the online catalog to find them.
