Any NY state school that is offering Summer School should be aware of the 2003 NYS Summer School Handbook, available online at: http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/rscs/chaps/SummerSchool/SummerSchoolHandbook2003.doc This handbook is important, but rarely seen by teachers because it outlines the requirements the district must meet to offer Summer School. Two very important points are: p.7 "...summer school is public instruction during the months of July and August..." p.9 "All secondary summer schools offering any course other than driver and traffic safety education are required to provide appropriate library services in accordance with Part 91 of the Commissioner's regulations." Regardless of what your district may call it, summer school is regular instruction presented in July and August. All NYS regulations and laws, and terms and provisions of your contract apply to Summer School. "There are three types of people: the "glass half full" group, the "glass half empty" group, and the group looking for someone to blame for spilling the glass in the first place." - Cleveland Amory Mrs. Carolyn Gierke, Librarian Sweet Home High School 1901 Sweet Home Road Amherst, NY 14228 Phone: 1-716-250-1227 FAX: 1-716-250-1360 email: cgierke@shs.k12.ny ************************************************************************************************** The contents of this email and any attachments are confidential.
