Hi, Perhaps what I am looking for is in the archives. However, I have not as = yet found the correct search term. I am assisting the teachers in my school in implementing Accelerated = Reader in our school using the Renaissance method. Previous to this year = I ran a store 4 times per year (once per marking period) in which = students could spend their points (needed to have at least a 75% = average). I was not happy with this. This year 4 goals (individual) are set for each child per marking = period. These are: 1) 85% average (80% K-2 since so many of their tests = are 5 questions) 2) Point goal (based on reading level and reading time) = 3) reading range (with a goal of an average no lower than the low end of = their range 4) certification. For the first 3 marking periods, I have promised a "Celebration" rather = than a store. Therefore, less emphasis is put on points and more on = attaining individual goals. The last celebration will be the store. = Those who make at least 90% of their goal (except % that needs to be = either 85% or 80%) are invited. I need simple, fun, inexpensive ideas for these celebrations. I just finished the first one. About 70 kids qualified. I wanted it to = be really fun because they worked hard and because I wanted the word = carried back that this is worth working for. It was a camping theme and = a big success. We had dimmed lights and a camp set up complete with = fake, glowing, campfire. We had camp song books, a guitar player and a = taps player for the end of our camp day. To eat, we had S'Mores and Bug = juice. I was able to get quite a few university students to help. = However, it was lots of work on my part, creating, coordinating, = organizing and leading all the chants and singing. Therefore, I am = looking for simpler - but fun - ideas. All ideas will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
