Good morning LM_NETters! The September topic for Weed of the Month is: 9-11. To provide information about September 11, 2001 for your students, you may have purchased some materials that were rushed to publication to fill that nationwide demand. Some of those titles were great, some were not. Some of your titles may be worn out by the initial demand and are due for replacement. Two years after the event is a good time to review this section. Weed, add, and replace so you have a solid collection on this topic of continuing interest. A brief explanation of Weed of the Month for new LM_NET members: The SUNLINK Weed of the Month began in September, 1997, from an idea by Mike Eisenberg, co-owner of LM_NET, and as an effort to help provide Florida's School Library Media Specialists with guidelines and suggestions for weeding their collections a little at a time as well as adding quality materials. A section of the collection is identified each month during the school year (September through May) as a weeding target. For more information, including guidelines for weeding this area, suggested titles to examine, and possible titles to consider for purchase, go to http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/weed/ .The current topic, as well as the archives of previous Weed of the Month topics may be found at the same location by scrolling down the menu bar on the left side of the screen. It does not matter how many books you may have, but whether they are good or not. -- Lucius Annaeus SENECA (3 B.C.-65 A.D.)
