I've read entire novels to older classes and it did take forever when you
only see the class for one period per week. However I got in the habit of
doing shorter novels like Because of Winn Dixie or Number the Stars and the
kids loved it. They especially liked it when I used different voiced for
each character. I always bought extra paperback copies for those kids who
liked to read along.
Next year I'll have different age groups -K to 3rd grade and 5th grade. The
5th grade won't be a scheduled class but rather a book exchange period. So
I guess I won't be doing much reading of novels anymore.
